Foundation Training

  • In-house (uncertified) training should be documented using the RNZCGP training template. Certificates may be created in-house but should contain sufficient relevant training detail.
  • Use the Staff Training Register to record all staff training for Foundation.

Rights and health needs of Māori

Responsiveness to diversity

Urgent Health Needs

 

All staff

Compulsory:

  • Annual clinical emergency drill training
  • Documented in-house training

Non-clinical staff

 

Compulsory:

  • Monitoring the waiting area.
  • Responding to patients with urgent medical conditions.
  • Documented in-house training

  • CPR training if deemed necessary. E.g. small or rural practices where there may be no clinician available at times.

Nurses

CPR certificate including:

  • Infant, child and adult CPR including mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-mask, and management of choking.
  • Use of automated defibrillator
  • One and two-person valve mask ventilation and mask-to-mouth technique

Consider advanced certificate if working in a medically high-risk area.

CPR providers can be selected by the practice. For example:

3-yearly for most

2-yearly for vaccinating nurses, most rural practices, and PRIME responders

 

 

Doctors

  • Minimum 6-hour course
  • Must upload certificate for CPD.
  • Must be appropriate for the work environment.

  • Documented in-house training – clinical staff member doing the training must have completed the course above.
  • External training – provider must be appropriately qualified. Training must cover the areas identified in the Foundation standard.
