We grant leave in accordance with the Holidays Act 2003.
Standard New Zealand leave entitlements include:
Any additional leave entitlements for practice staff are covered and documented in their individual or collective employment agreements. Applications for leave without pay are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Annual leave is coordinated and negotiated across the practice team so patients can access safe and timely health care. We encourage staff to take leave in accordance with their entitlements, and to plan leave well in advance to minimise disruption to patient care.
Applying for leave
Staff can apply for leave by contacting their manager or the practice manager.
We encourage staff to apply for annual leave at least six weeks (and preferably 3 months) in advance where possible. Staff are notified whether their leave request has been granted or denied within seven days. Declined requests are always discussed in person.
Employees should not assume any leave at discretion of the employer is granted, or confirm travel arrangements until they receive approval from the practice manager.
Staff are notified in writing within seven days, whether their leave request has been granted or denied. Declined requests are always discussed in person.
When leave is approved, the practice rosters are updated. Discretionary leave may be declined if the practice is unable to arrange cover.
All approved leave is added to the roster and staff noticeboard.
