Consider scalability and sustainability

InfoIcon

For Cornerstone CQI, your project needs to be both:

  • scalable – can it be expanded in scope?
  • sustainable – can it be resourced and funded longer term?

These ensure that a successful project could be embedded into your organisation.

You will need to describe scalability and sustainability separately.

Is it scalable?

You don't actually need to scale up your project unless you want to, but for Cornerstone CQI scaling up needs to be possible.

Explain how your project could be expanded to benefit more people.

For example:

Could you adjust:

  • patient numbers – by using a larger group?
  • participating staff numbers – could more staff become involved?
  • spread – could it be expanded to cover more conditions, or replicated elsewhere?

Is it sustainable?

Explain how your project could be sustained over the long term.

You don't need to actually do this, but you do need to think about whether it is possible. If it is successful, could the project be embedded into business as usual?

For example:

Do you have enough:

  • staff – do you have enough staff time available?
  • patients – will enough patients benefit to warrant it continuing?
  • equipment or physical resources – do you have the resources available?
  • financial resources – can you fund the ongoing staffing and equipment needed?
